Description

Knoxville Center of the Deaf is currently looking for qualified staff interpreters to provide In-person and Virtual Interpretation services (Tennessee), in the following language: American Sign Language.

Required Qualifications

RID NIC and/or BEI certifications preferred; Understanding of the non-profit organization profession and industry standards, including the professional code of ethics; Ability to maintain professional boundaries with all clients and consumers; Ability to work comfortably in settings with diverse populations; Demonstrated working knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Section 508 of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, the health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996, and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Essential Job Functions

  • Excellent communication and interpreting skills in American Sign Language and English
  • Ability to interpret in a variety of settings with diverse communication needs and preferences.
  • Comply the RID Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Assists with phone calls and scheduling during non-interpreting sessions
  • Willing to travel in to all areas that interpreting services are provided by Knoxville Center of the Deaf.
  • Represent Knoxville Center of the Deaf in a professional manner.
  • Attend all team meetings
  • Complete paperwork and/or projects in timely manner and maintain accurate records.
  • Familiar with GridCheck.
  • Other duties assigned by interpreting Services Coordinator and Executive Director

Education and Experience

  • College degree in interpreting, preferred.
  • Completion of interpreting training program or acceptable equivalent.
  • Sufficient continuing education to maintain professional growth and certification.
  • RID NIC and/or BEI certifications, preferred.
  • 1 year experience in ASL interpreting field.
  • Salary: $45,000.
  • Mileage reimbursement.
